Perissa beach is located around 15 kilometers from Fira, next to Emporio village. The beach is quite long and has black sand. It is well protected from the winds, as it lies next to a huge rock. You can get a nice view of Perissa beach from the top of Profitis Ilias mountain. Perissa gets very popular in summer and there are lot of hotels, beach-bars, taverns, night-clubs and restaurants in Perissa.
Kamari beach is about 10 km from Fira. It is a long beach with black sand and some pebbles. Kamari is the most popular and best organized beach on Santorini. Many watersports can be done in Kamari, as there are many sports clubs there. The closeby village was particularly developed after the earthquake of 1959. Close to Kamari, there are the beautiful churches of Panagia Episkopi and Panagia Myrtidiotissa.
Red beach is the most famous beach of Santorini. It is located near Akrotiri village and attracts lot of tourists in summer. Its red and black volcanic rocks are its principal characteristic. Red beach is pretty short but the landscape is adorable, as it is surrounded by huge, red volcanic cliffs.
Monolithos beach is a quiet beach near Kamari, 9 km from Fira. It has been developed mainly as a family resort. Its shoreline is sandy and some watersports opportunities can be found there. The beach is well organized and surrounded by hotels and taverns. The airport of Santorini is also close to Monolithos.
Columbo is one of the least organized beaches of Santorini, so ideal if you are looking for some solitude. It is a short beach surrounded by huge cliffs and much affected by strong winds. There are no tourist facilities in Columbo, just a small tavern nearby. To go there, you need your own means of transport.
Perivolos is a beautiful beach with dark sand and crystal waters. It is found close to Perissa and is quite well organized with beach bars, taverns and hotels around it. There are many opportunities for water sports there, like scuba diving, snorkeling and windsurfing.
Vlychada is a long beach after Perissa and Perivolos, on the road to Akrotiri village. It is not as crowded as the two previous beaches, so it is recommended for some quiet. There used to be an old factory in the area, but it has closed a long time now, so the waters are absolutely clean.
