SANTORINI BEACHES Santorini History | Santorini Architecture | Santorini Churches | Santorini Museum | Santorini Volcano | Santorini Beaches
The island of Santorini has many wonderful beaches which are unique for their black or red sands due to the volcanic soil. All beaches have idyllic crystalline waters. Here are the most famous of Santorini's beaches. Perissa The beach resort of Perissa is located 15 kilometres south-east of Fira, capital of Santorini Island. It is an impressively long beach with soft black sand and crystal-clear waters. The darkness of the sand creates an unusual and magical picture which charms every one who set foot on it. An enormous rock called Mesa Vouno (Inside Mountain) is majestically rising from the sea and becomes really magical at nights, when it is lighted. Plenty of accommodations, restaurants, taverns, cafes, bars, night clubs and beach bars are available in the summer resort of Perissa which is located just behind the beach. The ruins of the ancient town of Thira can be seen after following a little path across the mountain. Kamari Located 10 kilometres south-east of Santorini's capital (Fira), Kamari Beach is located just opposite the beach of Perissa, facing the same impressive rock which is rising from the sea. The beach has fine black sand and mirror-like waters and proposes sun beds and umbrellas rentals as well as various sea sports facilities and equipment. The settlement of the same name lines the beach of Kamari and offers nice walk by the sea as well as plenty of accommodations, restaurants, cafes, bars and night clubs. A road climbs from the summer resort and reach the site of Ancient Thira. Fishing boats are making the transfer to the beautiful islet of Anafi. Monolithos Monolithos Beach is situated nearby the beach of Kamari, in the area of Santorini's airport. It is less crowded than its neighbour and has fine sand and clear waters. A few nice hotels and rooms, studios and apartments for rent, restaurants and cafes can be found nearby the beach. Red Beach The unique and magical Red Beach is one of the most famous beaches of Santorini and one of the island's trademarks. It is lying nearby the village of Akrotiri and can be reached by little boat from the village's port and from the port of Fira or by car, followed by a short walk. The magical aspect of this beach is created by its soil which consists in a beautiful combination of red and black volcanic rocks; crystalline waters are finishing the fine picture. From this amazing beach visitors can take a fishing boat for the incredible Santorini's White Beach. | ||||||||
